Hi, my name is Indiana Jones, or Jonesy for short! I got my name because of all the adventures I've faced recently. I was a stray being held at the pound in Indiana, PA and was actually in the death chamber, about to be euthanized, when a kind employee there pulled me out because she thought I had potential. And I'm here to prove her right! I'm a small standard-sized American Eskimo male who is about 5 years old, 17 inches tall and 24 pounds. I'm neutered, current on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative and on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. When my foster mommy took me to the vet, they x-rayed me and found I have luxating patellas. This is just a fancy name for saying my knees pop out of joint sometimes, but they can be popped right back without pain. The vet said the best way to treat this condition is through exercise and weight control. So take me on frequent walks and don't overfeed me, and I should do just fine, without needing surgery or even medication! I'm now housebroken (I'm so smart I learned that very quickly with some good training from my foster mommy). I'm not leash-trained yet, but I bet I'll catch on pretty fast to that as well. I ride well in the car, though we're not sure yet if I'm crate-trained. My foster mommy thinks I need some additional obedience training, and she strongly suggests that my new owner be very experienced with the Eskie breed. I get along well with cats and other dogs, and with human children too. We recently found out that I don't do very well with most men--guess I'm just a real ladies' man! If there is an adult man in your household, he would probably need to be a relatively quiet, gentle person who knows how to relate to a rescue dog like me, who most likely had bad experiences with abusive men in my previous life. Also, I'm timid when I meet strangers, so please be patient with me when your guests come to the house and meet me for the first time. I have no aggression issues, even after going through lots of changes in my life recently--getting neutered, learning about cats, socializing with a real family, and actually getting to live inside. I even had to learn how to master the stairs in my foster home! I'm a very playful guy, but I'm also quite affectionate and will snuggle with you, because it's such a nice feeling to be loved and taken care of. I just need a little time to get to know you and learn to trust and love you. Then I will become your absolute "bestest" friend--I promise! My foster mommy says I'm thriving in this environment and I'm really living up to my new name. Won't you adopt me into your family and take me on all your life's adventures? We can have so much fun together! If you're interested in me and would like more information, please contact Wanda at: wanda@eskierescuersunited.org or feel free to e-mail my foster mommy directly at: peggy@eskierescuersunited.org. Better yet, you can go to our web site at: www.eskierescuersunited.org and fill out an adoption application for me! There is an adoption fee required, and whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state. I'm in Chambersburg, PA with my foster mommy, Peggy. To get me to you, we can do what's called an "Eskie Railroad," which is a group of volunteer drivers who will each drive a certain portion of the transport. (We always ask that you, as the adopter, help out by taking the final leg.) If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you may have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Also, please be aware that Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs. Thank you and WOOF! and#9829;Indiana Jonesand#9829;
