Hi!  My name is Izzy, I used to be called Iggy, but my foster Mom thought that name didnt fit me.  I'm a smaller Eskie, at around 18 lbs., and foster Mom thought Iggy sounded like Piggy, which I am definitely NOT!  She didn't want me to be confused though, so didn't change it much. I like Izzy and come when she calls it.

I'm a very sweet, calm girl and don't really care much about playing.  My foster brother likes to play, A LOT, but I just watch him.  I LOVE belly rubs though, and will lay on your lap for as long as you will rub.  I have to admit, sometimes I am a little insistent about asking for rubs.  My foster Mom is working with me on being more patient.  It's hard, though!

I come from a family who bred me with my friend, Blizzard.  Once we had puppies, they had us both "fixed".  They kept us outside, where we were bit by mosquitoes.  We both got heartworms.  I'm not sure what that means, but my foster Mom says I'm getting treated for them using the slow heartworm treatment method.  She gives me a pill every morning and says I will only need them for another couple of weeks.  I like them as they are chicken flavor.  After that, my foster Mom says with a continued monthly Heartgard pill, I will be heartworm negative.

Blizzard and I didn't really like being outside, and escaped.  Animal Control picked us up and our family never came to get us.  We had to be split up and another rescue group took Blizzard, while ERU took me.  I'm really happy with my new foster brother, but would love to have a forever home of my very own!  I would like a home where I get all the attention, but I also don't mind sharing with another dog.  I don't know about cats, I haven't been around them since my foster Mom let me come live with them.  I'm such a gentle girl that my foster Mom thinks I would probably get along with cats too.

I rest a lot, but I do like to go on walks with my foster brother and my foster Mom.  I keep up with him pretty well, even though my legs are shorter than his.  I bark some when we pass people, but I'm just letting Mom know that they are there.  I like everyone who will rub my belly, even kids, as long as they don't expect me to play too much.  I am almost 7 years old after all.

I stayed with an elderly couple when foster Mom went out of town, and they said I was really easy to take care of.  I'm housetrained, and am proud to say I have had not one single accident since I came to live with foster Mom.  I'm a really good girl!

Do you think I might fit in your family?

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

Whenever possible Eskie Rescuers United tries to adopt out its dogs locally (or at least to adopters in adjoining states to where I'm being fostered). Please note that ERU processes LOCAL adoption applications before considering those from out of state.

If I'm not local to you, as explained above, and you really have your heart set on me, you will have to make special arrangements so ERU can get me to you safely (for example, flying me to you at your own expense, or paying a transport group to drive me to you). Note: We may ask that you to make a donation to cover transport costs if the distance is great and we have trouble finding transport drivers.

There is an adoption fee required; and, please be aware, Eskie Rescuers United will not adopt out its dogs as outdoor dogs.

Eskie Rescuers United American Eskimo Dog Rescue, Inc. is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please click the donation button below to make a tax-deductible donation through PayPal and help make a difference to even one American Eskimo dog!
