Houdini is a beautiful 2 year old American Eskimo dog.  His mom has to find a new home for them as she has recently become disabled and can no longer care for him.

He understands most of your basic commands and some that aren't so basic: sit, up, leave it, stay, wait, off, no, yes, come here, let's go, go to your room, go to bed, let's head back, come around, mind your business, enough, eat, want some ice, water, out, scoot, going for a ride, get in the car etc.

He is a  full bred eskie and was purchased as a puppy from a breeder.  He was never registered but can be.

What I love about Houdini is that he is attentive and considerate. He will stop and wait for you to catch up on walks and looks at you as if to say "you ok". He is skittish at sudden loud sounds. On the other hand he likes to put his lips up against the vacuum while it runs. Go figure!

He loves water and has his own doggie pool.

Houdini is the peacemaker. He senses when there is conflict or trouble and tries to diffuse the situation with kisses and requests for attention. He loves to be petted and have his back massaged. He is silly and always wants to play. He loves you with his eyes. He will make someone who has time to train him and play with him.  He has cheered me up on many occasions.

Houdini appears to get anxious when riding in the car but likes to take rides with me. He barks at passers by. He likes to put his head out of the window no matter the weather. He gets more anxious if we ride with the windows up. He always is in the driver seat when I get back to the car. All I have to say is "Get in the back" or motion with my head to do so and he does.

He has never been around cats so it is unknown how he would react.  Observing his gentle and warm personality, I think he would be good with children. As I am sure you know, it's always best to be safe. I would recommend age 5 and older.

While on walks when someone is approaching walking, running, or riding a bicycle/motorcycle on either side of the street, he will start barking and pulling. If I pull on his leash and tell him to sit, he will usually sit but continue to bark. When trying to talk to someone, he barks but calms down shortly and waits patiently.  Houdini and I worked with a trainer recently using the Gentle Leader and he caught on quickly and did not react at all to a stranger approaching.

Houdini desparately needs to be put on a doggie diet!  He is overweight, although that is his only medical problem.  He wants to eat everything in sight including red clay dirt and poop, as well as your lunch.  He needs a home where this can be controlled.  Perhaps a premium diet dog food and special supplements will be the answer.

Houdini will let me, the vet, the groomer, etc. do about anything to him.

The last picture below is Houdini and his littermate Sterling on their second birthday.
